We recently posted this question on facebook and our audience proved to be a very educated group. If you said fluoride, give yourself a pat on the back. There are plenty of other toxins of course, including vaccinations, geoengineering (chemtrails), genetically modified organisms (GMO), microwaves, cell phones, fiberglass insulation, conventional medicine, but let's not get carried away. Although all of these are toxic to human health, governments are far from admitting it, let alone implementing any federal initiative to halt mass promotion. If fluoride is admitted by government to be harmful, why is still in the water supply?
For decades, fluoride has been marketed and heralded as essential for good dental hygiene and used in most toothpastes and mouthwashes. In addition, parents have been routinely encouraged to give their kids cavity-fighting fluoride treatments when they visit the dentist.
READ Facts You May Not Know About Fluoride
Beginning in the late 1940s, aided by mass industry lead lobbying campaigns, the government encouraged municipal water authorities to add fluoride to their community’s drinking water. According to the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), approximately 70 percent of the U.S. population ingests fluoride through their community drinking water today and they want this percentage to continue to climb. This is in stark contrast to other developed European nations were fluoride is rarely added to drinking water -- Britain provides only about 10 percent of their population with fluoridated water.
The "experts" and the government told us fluoride would strengthen tooth enamel, help prevent tooth decay and is, of course, perfectly safe. This was simply not true and the government now admits fluoride is toxic.
In a surprising reversal, last year the EPA announced that it intended to lower the maximum amount of fluoride in drinking water because of growing evidence supporting the chemical’s possible deleterious effects to children’s health.
EPA's recommendation reversal was made following a revised risk assessment study that found 2 out of 5 adolescents had tooth streaking or spottiness and some pitting as a result of excessive fluoride. In addition, other studies have found excessive ingestion of fluoride capable of increasing the risk of brittle bones leading to fractures and debilitating bone abnormalities.
Harvard University researchers' review of fluoride/brain studies concluded "our results support the possibility of adverse effects of fluoride exposures on children's neurodevelopment." It was published online July 20 in Environmental Health Perspectives, a US National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences' journal, reports the NYS Coalition Opposed to Fluoridation, Inc. (NYSCOF)
"The children in high fluoride areas had significantly lower IQ than those who lived in low fluoride areas," write Choi et al.
Further, the EPA says fluoride is a chemical "with substantial evidence of developmental neurotoxicity."
Fluoride (fluosilicic acid) is added to US water supplies at approximately 1 part per million attempting to reduce tooth decay.
"It's senseless to keep subjecting our children to this ongoing fluoridation experiment to satisfy the political agenda of special-interest groups," says attorney Paul Beeber, NYSCOF President. "Even if fluoridation reduced cavities, is tooth health more important than brain health? It's time to put politics aside and stop artificial fluoridation everywhere," says Beeber.
After reviewing fluoride toxicological data, the NRC reported in 2006, "It's apparent that fluorides have the ability to interfere with the functions of the brain."
Choi's team writes, "Fluoride readily crosses the placenta. Fluoride exposure to the developing brain, which is much more susceptible to injury caused by toxicants than is the mature brain, may possibly lead to damage of a permanent nature."
Fluoride accumulates in the body. Even low doses are harmful to babies, the thyroid, kidney patients and heavy water-drinkers. There are even doubts about fluoridation's effectiveness. New York City Legislation is pending to stop fluoridation. Many communities have already stopped.
Infant formula when mixed with fluoridated water delivers 100-200 times more fluoride than breastmilk.
A study published earlier this year in Nuclear Medicine Communications Journal concluded that increased uptake of fluoride in arteries may be associated with an increased cardiovascular risk. Fluoride also happens to be in the drinking water of 170 million Americans.
How Deadly is Fluoride?
The recovery of hydrofluosilicic acid involves essentially the recirculation of scrubbing water until the acid concentration reaches a marketable value, which may vary from 20 to 30 percent, but usually is about 23 percent. Sodium fluoride is manufactured by adding soda ash to dilute hydrofluosilicic acid and filtering off the resultant precipitate.
Both sodium fluoride and hydrofluosilicic acid are the two primary compounds used for water fluoridation and neither compound has ever been studied by governments for toxicological testing and long-term effects on health.
Sodium fluoride is a registered poison. It has been a protected pollutant for a very long time. It is a very toxic chemical, acting as an enzyme poison, direct irritant and calcium inactivator
Fluoride was found to be an equivocal carcinogen by the National Cancer Institute Toxicological Program. Further studies by the New Jersey Department of Health have now confirmed a 6.9 fold increase in bone cancer in young males. Earlier studies had found a 5% increase in all types of cancers in fluoridated communities.
Infertility in women has been found to increase with water fluoridation. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) scientists reported a close correlation between decreasing total fertility rates in women between ages of 10 and 49, and increasing fluoride levels. They also reported that a review of all of the animal studies done to date shows that fluoride adversely affects fertility in most animal species.
The evidence that fluoridation is more harmful than beneficial is now overwhelming and policy makers who avoid thoroughly reviewing recent data before introducing new fluoridation schemes do so at risk of future litigation.
So why is fluoride still in the water supply even though it's admitted to be toxic? Only you can really answer that question for yourself...but it doesn't take a genius to figure it out!
