Admittedly Illegal Genetically Modified Soil Fungus Present in 'Organic' Products

Admittedly Illegal Genetically Modified Soil Fungus Present in 'Organic' Products by Mike Barrett

There is a call for a near-future investigation of illegal synthetics being used in organic food which have been corruptly approved by corporations gaming the system. The United States National Organic Standards Board, a panel that advises the USDA Secretary on all things organic related, was the one to approve Martek Biosciences Coprorations petition allowing for the use of the synthetic chemical - a genetically modified soil fungus and algae - in organic food.

The Cornucopia Institute reports:
"Martek's formulated oils are processed with synthetic petrochemical solvents in a blend containing a myriad of other synthetic chemicals. Supplements derived from these oils, commonly marketed as DHA and ARA, are being added to milk, infant formula and other organic foods by such companies as Dean Foods (Horizon), Abbott Laboratories (Similac) and Nurture, Inc. (Happy Baby)"
This issue has actually been going on for quite some time, and the United States Department of Agriculture seems to think it will just disappear. In April 2010, after receiving a formal complaint by the Cornucopia Institute and being the subject of an investigative report by the Washington Post, the USDA announced that its decision to allow Marteck's oils in organic foods was inappropriate. The scandal helped lead to the dismissal of the National Organic Programs previous director, who nullified her staff's decision finding that the supplements from Martek were illegal in organic foods.

Although the decision made by the previous director was reversed in April of 2010, the Obama/Vilsack administration at the USDA delayed the removal of the unapproved, genetically modified synthetics by 18 months. While the Food and Drug Administration pushed complaints concerning the safety of Martek's products under the rug, parents and some healthcare providers keep reporting on how infants will continue to experience serious gastrointestinal symptoms and become ill after consumption.

Even though Martek made claims to discontinue the use of the controversial neurotoxic solvent n-hexane for DHA/ARA processing, they didn't make known the substitutes they would use. But in order for the company to successfully follow organic standard, they will not be able to use any synthetic solvents or petrochemical solvents.

New Study Reveals How Aluminum Promotes Cancer Growth

New Study Reveals How Aluminum Promotes Cancer Growth by Andrew Puhanic

We are all unwillingly exposed to a range of cancer-causing chemicals and substances every day. One substance that the globalists and government don’t want you know about that could be causing you considerable harm and health problems is aluminium.

The fact is most people are exposed to aluminum on a daily basis. Very little is publicized about the risks and dangers of being exposed to aluminum, and most of us are unaware of how many common products use aluminum as a medium of storage or control.

New research published in the Journal of Applied Toxicology has revealed that long-term exposure of MCF-10A human mammary epithelial cells to aluminum results in anchorage-independent growth, a key hallmark of cultured tumour cells and of cells on the way to malignant transformation. This study also found that shorter (7 days) exposure to aluminum results in diminished cell numbers owing to cellular senescence.

A commonly used household product that contains aluminum is deodorant (antiperspirants). The aluminum contaminant found in most antiperspirants is Aluminium Chlorohydrate. A 1990 study discovered an association between exposure to aluminum and long-term use of antiperspirants and Alzheimer’s disease. Observations made indicated a trend toward a higher risk with increasing frequency of use. [1]

Due to the ease of Aluminum being absorbed through the skin in the daily application of antiperspirants containing high concentrations of aluminum, this type of exposure can increase the risks of being exposed to Aluminum Chlorohydrate well above what would be considered normal.

The effect of aluminum on cellular proliferation and cellular senescence is strikingly similar to that of activated oncogenes, which increases DSBs and cellular senescence by inducing proliferation stress when transfected into normal cells. The study found this effect surprising for aluminum, present in antiperspirants at high concentrations because, presumably, it is considered harmless for the breast area. In contrast to gallium and indium which belong to the same group as aluminum in the Mendeleev Table, they did not induce anchorage-independent growth in MCF-10A cells, showing that the effects reported in this study are specific for aluminum. [2]

Although most of us are exposed to aluminum at home, many are exposed to aluminum during the production of aluminum products. Aluminum production and metalworking industries have shown consistent elevated risks for pancreatic cancer [3]. In Canada, the mortality of a large group of men employed in aluminum production using the Söderberg process was examined between 1950 and 1977, and compared with the pertinent rates for the Province of Quebec. Workers exposed to condensed pitch volatiles exhibited significantly increased mortality from all cancers (304 observed, 246.6 expected), and from esophageal and stomach cancer (50 observed, 32.8 expected), lung cancer (101 observed, 70.7 expected) and other malignancies (60 observed, 45.3 expected) [4].

Other Products That Contain Aluminum

The number of products that contain aluminum is unbelievable. The globalists and the government don’t want you to know what products contain aluminum. So why are the government and the globalists not advising you, the consumer, of the risks of using products that contain aluminum? The only logical reasons I can think of would be because many of the globalists have vested interests in organisations that produce profitable products that contain aluminum, and the government is reaping millions of dollars in tax from the purchase of products that contain aluminum.  The following is a list of household products that the globalists and the government don’t want you to know that contain aluminum.

  • Antiperspirants
  • Antacids
  • Many body lotions and creams
  • Most cosmetics
  • Shampoos and conditioners
  • Soaps
  • Suntan lotions
  • Lip Balm
  • Processed cheese
  • Baking powder
  • Cake mix
  • Frozen dough
  • Pancake mix
  • Self-raising flour
  • Pickled vegetables.
Also, the following food additives contain aluminum compounds. They are E173, E520, E521, E523 E541, E545, E554, E555 E556 and E559.

Aluminum salts are also found in many common medicines.
  • Antacids
  • Anti-diarrhea products
  • Anti-hemorrhoid preparations.
  • Vaccines
Please note, if your doctor has prescribed the above three medicines, please do not discontinue using them. Speak to your doctor at your next appointment and ask if there are any suitable alternatives.

Other Risks

The risk of developing breast cancer from excessive use of aluminum is also evident. A study published in 2003 by the European Journal of Cancer Prevention found a correlation between earlier diagnosis of breast cancer and antiperspirant deodorant use (5). A 2003 study also indicated “underarm shaving with antiperspirant deodorant use may play a role in breast cancer [5].

Thankfully, the link between breast cancer and aluminum is not conclusive and still needs considerable research to be conducted. A 2004 study reviewing the evidence for and against the possible link between breast cancer and underarm cosmetics wrote “Although animal and laboratory studies suggest a possible link between certain chemicals used in underarm cosmetics and breast cancer development, there is no reliable evidence that underarm cosmetics use increases breast cancer risk in humans [6].

Symptoms of Overexposure to Aluminum

The fundamental problem we all face is that the many symptoms of aluminum poisoning are usually associated with other illnesses. This therefore poses a risk to the identification and causes of many illnesses. Symptoms of over exposure to aluminum can be:
  • Colic
  • Rickets
  • Gastrointestinal problems
  • Interference with the metabolism of calcium
  • Extreme nervousness
  • Anemia
  • Headaches
  • Decreased liver and kidney function
  • Memory loss
  • Speech problems
  • Softening of the bones
  • Aching muscles
How to Remove Aluminum from your Body

There are many options available if you would like to remove heavy metals such as aluminum from your body. One recommendation I would first suggest would be to visit your local Naturopath. Your local Naturopath would have a good understanding of what foods are ordinarily consumed were you live and the local remedies that are available. Common foods that can be used to detox heavy metals are as follows:
  • Chlorella
  • Lemon Juice
  • Apples
  • Soaking your feet with Epsom salts and sea salt (1/2 cup each).
  • Turmeric
  • Garlic
  • Fish Oil
  • Vitamin C
  • Kelp
  • Ionic Foot Bath
  • Modifilan
  • Chelation Therapy – EDTA, DMSO, etc. Chelation can be done by IV, orally or by suppository.
  • Detox clay bath
  • Malic acid – in supplement form or just eat apples.
  • Magnesium – helps shut out aluminium from cells. Works hand in hand with malic acid.
  • Eat sulfur-rich foods such as eggs, cabbage, beans and onions. [7]
Conclusion

The risks associated with being exposed to aluminum regularly outweigh the cost of avoidance. This harmful product is found in our food, medications and cosmetics. Overexposure can increase the risk of developing Alzheimer’s disease and various other illnesses. The best way to reduce the risk of being overexposed to aluminum is to avoid it all together. What the globalists and our government are doing here is exactly the same as what they did with the use of BPA in children’s products. I encourage you to begin making the necessary changes to your daily routine to eliminate this heavy metal from your body. We are already overexposed to many heavy metals and poisons, and this is one that can be easily eliminated.

Are "Chemtrails" Real?

Evidence For Atmospheric
Aerosol Spraying

Jan. 27, 2012: Are "Chemtrails" Real? by Isaac Lewis

Often when the topic of “chemtrails” come up, the knee-jerk response is to view them as “conspiracy theory,” owing to the fact that the evidence of our senses -- i.e. actually seeing them with our eyes -- is not considered evidence enough. We are made to believe that only Science, and its primarily excreta - peer-reviewed, published research - can vindicate eye witness or anecdotal accounts. Those who debunk the notion that the increasingly prevalent 'persistent contrails' we see all around us contain anything other than water vapor and/or ice crystals, forbid their existence a priori, often claiming there is no substantiation from authoritative sources that #1: they exist, and #2: they contribute to illness.

What better place, therefore, than to look to the National Library of Medicine, the source and the "gold standard" for this much-needed "authoritative evidence" that aircraft are spraying anything of a chemical nature at all.

On MEDLINE the topic of “atmospheric aerosal spraying” does, in fact, come up. One author in particular suggests that chronic barium exposure and intoxication may be occurring from atmospheric aerosol spraying, done “for enhancing/refracting the signalling of radio/radar waves along military jet flight paths, missile test ranges, etc.” He believes barium may be responsible for the high incidence clustering of multiple sclerosis and other neurodegenerative diseases such as transmissible spongiform encephalopathies (TSEs) and amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) in certain regions where it is a major environmental contaminant.

In a second article on the same topic the same author identifies Silver (Ag), Barium (Ba) and Strontium (Sr) and low levels of copper (Cu) as having accumulated in the food chain due, in part,  to “aerial spraying with 'cloud seeding' Ag or Ba crystal nuclei for rain making in these drought-prone areas of North America, the atmospheric spraying with Ba based aerosols for enhancing/refracting radar and radio signal communications...”  The bioaccumulation of these elements into the food chain can result in a neurodegenerative process that can be confused with transmissible spongiform encephalopathies (TSEs) of infectious origin.

Another study published in the journal Ecotoxicology and Environmental Safety in 2002, reports that “Over the last 25 years, several hundred thousand pounds of aluminized chaff have been released during flight operations over a training area on the Chesapeake Bay.”  Another article, in the same journal the same year, states that “At least 500 tons of chaff is released annually during training within selected military operating areas in the United States.” The article also describes the nature of the chemical being released in more detail:

“Chaff is a radiofrequency countermeasure released by military aircraft, ships, and vehicles to confuse enemy radar. Chaff consists of aluminum-coated glass fibers ranging in lengths from 0.8 to 0.75 cm and is released in packets of 0.5 to 100 million fibers. The Department of Defense has determined that use of chaff in training is required for maintaining proficiency in the use of this countermeasure.”

The authors also touch upon the related health issues:

“Concerns have been raised about impact on the environment and its potential toxicity to humans, livestock, and wildlife. Many of these concerns have been addressed or are being researched by the Department of Defense and other agencies, but much of the data are unpublished.”

As one can now see, contrails are not the only explanation for the visible trails left by aircraft. Contrails, which are "the visible trail of streaks of condensed water vapor or ice crystals sometimes forming in the wake of an aircraft," generally do not persist very long, nor do they contain aluminum or barium. Although "persistent contrails" may form under certain natural meteorological conditions, they do not explain the criss-crossed patterning often observed in the skies throughout the world, nor the effects these discharges have upon surrounding clouds, other weather and the people exposed to fallout from them.

Knowing now that peer-reviewed and published research exists which reference aircraft spraying chemicals for either military or geo-engineering purposes, should move this debate from the realm of alleged "conspiracy theory" to that of intelligent debate and public inquiry.

Right now, nothing of the sort is possible. If you search sites like Wikipedia or online dictionaries for the term "chemtrail" you will get a redirect to another phrase you did not search for: "chemtrail conspiracy theory," as evidenced below....

So, are the "chemtrails" the conspiracy theory, OR, is the conspiracy against discussing, investigating and understanding what is behind them?

For some of us, the question put to us increasingly by our own eyes is: what in the world are they spraying? In an investigative documentary by the same name, this question is thoroughly considered. Please watch it, if you are interested, and provide your comments/impressions afterwards below. Also, feel free to review our atmospheric aerosal spray page and bookmark it for future research updates (GMI-Pro members can subscribe to the page topic for instant email updates when new research is added).

US: 28 States to Consider Toxic Chemicals Legislation in 2012

US: 28 States to Consider Toxic Chemicals Legislation in 2012 by Sarah Doll, National Director

With no action yet from Congress, state legislatures continue to work to protect citizens.

The past couple years have seen unprecedented changes in the toxic chemicals landscape across the United States. In the past nine years, over 80 chemical safety laws have been passed with an overwhelming margin of bi-partisan support in statehouses across the country.

But this is not a time to rest on our laurels. Across the country, families still come into contact with unregulated toxic chemicals. Every day, we are exposed to hundreds of different chemicals in our home and at our work - chemicals like formaldehyde and chlorinated Tris which are known carcinogens, and bisphenol-a (BPA) which contributes to health problems with reproductive development.

None of these chemicals are effectively regulated by the federal government: it is a widely held myth that manufacturers even have to prove a chemical's safety before introducing it into products we buy. They don't have to, and they won't often even disclose which chemicals make up their products. Instead, they hide behind the claim that the information is proprietary.

The hope for federal regulation is still that - just a hope; the law overseeing toxic chemical regulation is over 30 years old, and its overhaul is being buffeted by strong opposition from the industry trade association which is backed by billions of dollars of influence. So while Congress tries to figure out how to change the rules on the federal level, it is up to the states to fill the gap in protection.

The Safer States coalition, made up of groups of environmental advocates, physicians, nurses, parents, and concerned citizens, stands in support of laws and policies which will lighten the toxic chemical burden that our families, loved ones and community carry.

The fact that we have been able to consistently pass important laws during troubling economic times is encouraging. While much of the chemical industry would have us believe that such laws are anti-business and anti-profit, many other organizations see the writing on the wall: The way that chemicals get into everyday household goods and then into our homes is unsafe and dangerous.

In addition to bi-partisan passage of many toxic chemicals laws, we see the support of many small businesses and manufacturing companies. David Levine, co-founder of the American Sustainable Business Council, which represents more than 100,000 businesses and 200,000 business leaders and entrepreneurs, says:
"Today's astute business leaders are concerned about the health and business impacts that could arise if the products they use or sell contain toxic chemicals.

They recognize that safer chemicals protect human and environmental health and cut the costs of regulation, hazardous waste storage and disposal, worker protection, health care costs, and future liabilities.

Such steps make U.S. businesses more competitive in a global marketplace where protections from toxic chemicals are more stringent, opening up growing market opportunities.1"
This year, at least 28 state legislatures will consider proposals to address continued concerns about toxic chemicals in consumer products. From bans on toxic flame retardants, BPA and formaldehyde to public right-to-know laws, state legislatures will be considering critical proposals to protect their citizens from toxic chemicals.

In fact Vermont already passed a school "green" cleaning policy which will require manufacturers of cleaning products to only sell environmentally preferable products in schools.

Highlights of 2012 state legislation include:
  • Identification and Disclosure of Chemicals Harmful to Children. At least 13 states, including Alaska, Connecticut, Florida, Illinois, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, New York, New Jersey, Oregon, Vermont, and Washington will consider policies to identify and ultimately reduce exposures to chemicals of concern, including prioritizing chemicals for state action and requiring manufacturers of consumer products to disclose the chemicals in their products.
  • BPA Phase Outs. At least 20 states will consider policy to restrict the use of the hormone-disrupting chemical BPA in infant formula cans, other food packaging, children's products, and receipt paper. Alaska, Alabama, Arizona, Connecticut, Colorado, Georgia, Hawaii, Illinois, Iowa, Kentucky, Massachusetts, Maine, New Hampshire, New York, North Carolina, New Jersey, Tennessee, Virginia, West Virginia and Wisconsin are all states considering such legislation.
  • Tris Flame Retardant Phase Outs. At least four state legislatures will introduce policies to phase out the use of the flame retardant chlorinated Tris in children's products. Chlorinated Tris is a flame retardant that was removed from children's pajamas in the 1970s because of concerns over adverse health effects, including cancer, but has reappeared in other children's products. Connecticut, Maryland, New York, and Washington are legislatures considering such a ban. In addition, Alaska, Michigan, New Jersey and New York legislatures will consider policies to reduce exposure to the flame retardant decaBDE.
  • Green Cleaning in Schools. Earlier this month, Vermont passed policy requiring manufacturers to only sell environmentally preferable cleaning products to schools. Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York, and North Carolina are considering similar policy.
  • Cadmium Bans in Children's Products. At least 5 states will be introducing or have introduced policies to ban the use of cadmium in children's products, including Hawaii, Maryland, Michigan, New York, and Tennessee. Cadmium is linked to cancer and other health effects.
  • Other policies. Oregon has introduced policy to require the state to reduce toxics through its procurement process. New York is considering policy to restrict formaldehyde in beauty products. Massachusetts and Georgia are also considering policy to improve the safety of cosmetics. Other states have introduced individual chemical restrictions, such as lindane in Michigan and perchloroethelyene in Vermont.

We have seen proof that state legislation creates a ripple which has effects that reach further than the state's borders. State legislation causes manufacturers to make nationwide changes, and sometimes it is the leader for federal regulatory changes. We look forward to another year of working to protect children and families from the debilitating effects of the toxic chemicals in our every day environment.

Sex, Beer & Politics: Riddles Reveal Life of Ancient Mesopotamians

© G. Eric and Edith Matson Photograph Collection,
Library of Congress, in public domain

At the time the tablet was written, more than
3,500 years ago, Babylon (shown here as seen in
1932) Babylon was one of the most important cities
in southern Mesopotamia, controlling an empire
in the region. It's possible the writer of the
tablet's riddles lived within this kingdom.
The tablet's current location is unknown.
Sex, Beer & Politics: Riddles Reveal Life of Ancient Mesopotamians by Owen Jarus

Millennia before modern-day Americans made fun of their politicians or cracked crude jokes over a cold one, people in ancient Mesopotamia were doing much the same thing.

The evidence of sex, politics and beer-drinking comes from a newly translated tablet, dating back more than 3,500 years, which reveals a series of riddles.

The text is fragmentary in parts and appears to have been written by an inexperienced hand, possibly a student. The researchers aren't sure where the tablet originates, though they suspect its scribe lived in the southern part of Mesopotamia, near the Persian Gulf.

The translation, by Nathan Wasserman, a professor at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem's Institute of Archaeology, and Michael Streck, a professor with the Altorientalisches Institut at Universität Leipzig, is detailed in the most recent edition of the journal Iraq.

Rare riddles

The text was written in Akkadian, using cuneiform script. It was a language commonly used by the Babylonians, along with other ancient kingdoms in the Middle East.

"This is a relatively rare genre - we don't have many riddles," Wasserman told LiveScience in an interview, referring to riddles written in the Akkadian language.

Unfortunately, researchers are not certain where the tablet is presently located. In 1976, it was housed in the Iraq Museum in Baghdad. At that time, a scholar named J.J. van Dijk published a copy of the Akkadian inscription, which the researchers used for their translation.

Since 1976, Iraq has been through three wars and, during the 2003 invasion, the museum was pillaged. "We tried to figure out where the tablet is now, [but] I don't know," Wasserman said. He added that the tablet is small and not very impressive-looking, something that a looter may take a pass on, "I very much hope that it is still there," Wasserman said.

Political humor

Some of the decoded riddles are crude and sexual, while others are complex and metaphorical. One of them reveals what appears to be a bit of political humor, albeit with a dark, violent twist.
He gouged out the eye:

It is not the fate of a dead man.

He cut the throat: A dead man (-Who is it?)
The answer is a governor.

"This riddle describes the power of a governor namely to act as a judge who punishes or sentences to death," write Streck and Wasserman in the journal article.

Wasserman has seen examples in other Akkadian texts of people criticizing their leaders. "We have some interesting traces of political criticism, and [I] might say even say political anger," he said. "It could be a kind of political humor expressed in this governor riddle."

While the governor riddle reflects a sort of gallows' humor, others are much lighter.
In(?) your mouth and your teeth (or: your urine)

constantly stared at you

the measuring vessel of your lord (-What is it?)
The answer, it appears, is beer.

Crude and lewd

Politics and beer were not the only things the scribe commented on. Two of the riddles, now in a fragmentary state, are sexual, crude and difficult to understand.

One of them, whose translation is uncertain, reads:
The deflowered (girl) did not become pregnant

The undeflowered (girl) became pregnant (-What is it?)
The answer, strangely enough, appears to be "auxiliary forces," a group of soldiers that tend not to be reliable.

Wasserman said that the meaning of this riddle eludes him. "I don't understand what is really going on," he said, adding that auxiliary forces are often below-average soldiers, "and they are not really trustworthy, sometimes they run away in the middle of the battle."

Another riddle, this one even more fragmentary and whose translation is uncertain, is also very crude.
... of your mother

is by the one who has intercourse (with her) (-What/who is it?)
The researchers aren't sure of the riddle's solution since the answer has been lost.

Ancient metaphor

One of the riddles appears to rely on metaphor to get its point across.
The tower is high

it is high, but nonetheless has no shade (- What is it?)
The answer is sunlight.

"You have to think about the riddle like the Lord of the Rings or The Hobbit; it is metaphor," Wasserman said. Imagine you are outside and see a beam of light going from sky to Earth.

"It looks like a tower, but it gives no shade, of course, because it's light itself," Wasserman said. "The answer is the proof for its own validity."

The last riddle relies on logic:

(Note the translation of the first line is uncertain)
Like a fish in a fish pond

Like troops before the king (-What is it?)
The answer is a broken bow.

© steve estvanik | shutterstock
Archery was widely used in the ancient world
for both warfare and hunting. If your bow was broken
you would be able to do neither.
Here's why that solution makes sense: Soldiers in front of their king are soldiers that are not out fighting or guarding the kingdom. Also "a fish in a fish pond is not really helpful if you are hungry," Wasserman said. A broken bow is useless as well, "a broken bow is not really helpful if you need to go to war or to hunt a deer."

The researchers emphasized in their paper that the number of surviving Akkadian riddles from this time period is "very small" and, overall, this tablet provides a rare opportunity to explore this genre of ancient writing.

Comment: The author in this article plays off the quantum mechanical verses theory of relativity quite nicely and this may be associated with an ancient legend where the mind is connected to something G. I. Gurdjieff called the "large accumulator."

Business As Usual at the FDA

Business As Usual at the FDA by Karen De Coster

This story in the Wall Street Journal barely made a splash last week – “FDA Panelists Had Ties to Bayer.” Three advisors who had financial ties to Bayer AG were invited to serve on a “safety committee” for the FDA to assess the safety of four Bayer AG birth control drugs. All three individuals were either paid consultants, researchers, or speakers. Here’s a paragraph from the article:

Jill Hartzler Warner, an FDA official who oversees advisory committees, said the agency is 'prohibited from giving the public any information contained in a financial disclosure' from committee members. When picking committees, the FDA weighs 'whether a meeting would affect the financial interest' of a panelist. The agency also does 'look at whether past relationships would give the appearance of being a conflict,' she said.
Apparently, having worked for Bayer and getting paid by the company does not qualify as a past relationship that would give the appearance of being a conflict. Business as usual at one of the government’s largest and most invincible criminal organizations.

Another article in The Atlantic (be forewarned, the writer is a dedicated leftie) believes the FDA has failed because American industrial food interests still use antibiotics on animals in concentrated animal feeding operations (CAFOs).
Roughly 70 percent of all antibiotics used in the United States are given to healthy farm animals to foster rapid growth and make up for unhygienic living conditions. Many bacteria that live on animals adapt and transfer to humans, spreading superbugs that are often resistant to treatment.
In the end, the article praises the EU for its central food and price planning, and the author is rigid in her belief that the U.S. should mimic the EU with its own central planning, with the FDA leading the way. Nowhere does the author mention the corporatocracy and the culture of corruption that enables and maintains the industrialized CAFO model. Michael Pollan, author of Omnivore’s Dilemma (one of the most important books written in the last 50 years, in my opinion), was all over this topic long ago. One of the best articles ever on this topic was written by him in the New York Times in 2007: ”Our Decrepit Food Factories.” Here, Pollan writes:

The first story is about MRSA, the very scary antibiotic-resistant strain of Staphylococcus bacteria that is now killing more Americans each year than AIDS — 100,000 infections leading to 19,000 deaths in 2005, according to estimates in The Journal of the American Medical Association. For years now, drug-resistant staph infections have been a problem in hospitals, where the heavy use of antibiotics can create resistant strains of bacteria. It’s Evolution 101: the drugs kill off all but the tiny handful of microbes that, by dint of a chance mutation, possess genes allowing them to withstand the onslaught; these hardy survivors then get to work building a drug-resistant superrace. The methicillin-resistant staph that first emerged in hospitals as early as the 1960s posed a threat mostly to elderly patients. But a new and even more virulent strain — called 'community-acquired MRSA' — is now killing young and otherwise healthy people who have not set foot in a hospital. No one is yet sure how or where this strain evolved, but it is sufficiently different from the hospital-bred strains to have some researchers looking elsewhere for its origin, to another environment where the heavy use of antibiotics is selecting for the evolution of a lethal new microbe: the concentrated animal feeding operation, or CAFO.
Pollan goes on to explain that roughly 70% of all antibiotics that are used in America are fed to animals in order to sustain their lives so they can live in unnatural and filthy conditions. Pollan also writes:
That seems to be a hallmark of industrial agriculture: to maximize production and keep food as cheap as possible, it pushes natural systems and organisms to their limit, asking them to function as efficiently as machines. When the inevitable problems crop up — when bees or pigs remind us they are not machines — the system can be ingenious in finding 'solutions,' whether in the form of antibiotics to keep pigs healthy or foreign bees to help pollinate the almonds. But this year’s solutions have a way of becoming next year’s problems. That is to say, they aren’t 'sustainable.'
…Whenever we try to rearrange natural systems along the lines of a machine or a factory, whether by raising too many pigs in one place or too many almond trees, whatever we may gain in industrial efficiency, we sacrifice in biological resilience. The question is not whether systems this brittle will break down, but when and how, and whether when they do, we’ll be prepared to treat the whole idea of sustainability as something more than a nice word.
In addition to the hormones and antibiotics that are used to keep confined animals alive long enough to produce an excess of cheap meat, the U.S. government, through the CDC, actively promotes the irradiation of food for … our “safety.” The FDA, on its website, promotes the belief that the radiation of food is safe.
The Food and Drug Administration has approved irradiation of meat and poultry and allows its use for a variety of other foods, including fresh fruits and vegetables, and spices. The agency determined that the process is safe and effective in decreasing or eliminating harmful bacteria.
In fact, the FDA went so far as to promote the idea that irradiated foods could be labeled as “pasteurized” as a way to “soften” the language so that consumers do not know what they are buying. (See this article in USA Today in 2007.) As Pollan writes in Omnivore’s Dilemma, “The short, unhappy life of a corn-fed feedlot steer represents the ultimate triumph of industrial thinking over the logic of evolution.”

Mad Science: Genetic Engineering Gets Extreme. Now Comes Synthetic Genetic Modification

Genetic Engineering Gets Extreme. Now Comes Synthetic Genetic Modification - Gaia Health

You thought genetically modified organisms could be dangerous? Hold on, because synthetic genetic engineering is taking it to a whole new level. It goes beyond inserting genes from one life into another by manufacturing DNA never imagined in nature—by creating synthetic DNA from non-living materials.

SynBio

Synthetic genetic engineering – synthetic biology or SynBio – is, literally, the creation of synthetic life. It’s the manufacture of lifeforms or the modification of living organisms using non-biological materials. It’s a step beyond genetic engineering, in which the DNA from one organism is implanted into another. The DNA itself may be manufactured, literally created in a lab.

SynBio is, in fact, a combination of several technologies and types of science, including biology, chemistry, physics, computer science, nanotechnology, and engineering.

It’s also, in line with computer science, sometimes called bio-hacking, a term that evokes much of what it’s about. The purpose is to decrypt the biological code so that it can be redirected to other uses—a bit like breaking into a computer, taking control of its processor, and giving it directions to do something different from its original purpose.

In Climate Connections, Jeff Conant describes it like this:
Synthetic DNA is used to fabricate biological building blocks – often called “BioBrick” – capable of being combined in many different ways. “Parts” are assembled into “circuits” which are inserted into a “chassis” to create designer microbial factories that can be “booted up” to manufacture proteins or detect molecules that nature herself may never have dreamed up.
SynBio is the act of treating life as if it were simply a form of mechanical object.

Monsanto’s Infertility-Linked Roundup Found in All Urine Samples Tested

Monsanto’s Infertility-Linked Roundup Found in All Urine Samples Tested by Mike Barrett

A recent study conducted by a German university found very high concentrations of Glyphosate, a carcinogenic chemical found in herbicides like Monsanto’s Roundup, in all urine samples tested. The amount of glyphosate found in the urine was staggering, with each sample containing concentrations at 5 to 20-fold the limit established for drinking water. This is just one more piece of evidence that herbicides are, at the very least, being sprayed out of control.

Glyphosate in Monsanto’s Roundup Impacting Global Health

This news comes only one month after it was found that glyphosate, contained in Monsanto’s Roundup, is contaminating the groundwater in the areas in which it is used. What does this mean? It means that toxic glyphosate is now polluting the world’s drinking water through the widespread contamination of aquifers, wells and springs. The recent reports of glyphosate showing up in all urine samples only enhances these past findings.

Monsanto continues to make the claim that their Roundup products are completely safe for both animals and humans. However many environmentalists, scientists , activists, and even doctors say otherwise. Glyphosate radically affects the metabolism of plants in a negative way. It is a systemic poison preventing the formation of essential amino acids, leading to weakened plants which ultimately die from it.

A formula seems to have been made to not only ruin the agricultural system, but also compromise the health of millions of people worldwide. With the invent of Monsanto’s Roundup Ready crops, resistant superweeds are taking over farmland and public health is being attacked. As it turns out, glyphosate is also leaving behind its residue on Roundup Ready crops, causing further potential concern for public health. Glyphosate is even contributing to escalating rates of mental illness and obesity through the depletion of beneficial gut flora that directly regulates these functions. But it certainly doesn’t stop there.

Researchers tested roundup on mature male rats at a concentration range between 1 and 10,000 parts per million (ppm), and found that within 1 to 48 hours of exposure, testicular cells of the mature rats were either damaged or killed. Even at a concentration of 1 ppm, the Roundup was able to affect the test subjects by decreasing their testosterone concentrations by as much as 35%.

Obama's "State of Delusion Address": Rebuilding America With War Crimes

Obama's "State of Delusion Address": Rebuilding America With War Crimes by Finian Cunningham

From beginning to end, Barack Obama's State of the Union speech was replete with delusion and falsifications. His promise of building an "America that lasts" was predicated on a sentimental, but utterly disingenuous notion of selfless teamwork. The invocation of American military "heroes" and their "achievements" during nine years of waging war on Iraq as an exemplar of how to salvage his nation from economic and social catastrophe was both sickening and laughable.

"These achievements are a testament to the courage, selflessness and teamwork of America's Armed Forces. At a time when too many of our institutions have let us down, they exceed all expectations," said Obama in praise of US troops fresh from their destruction in Iraq.

If that's what Obama and the American people believe will resolve the deep-seated problems of American society then good luck to them in harbouring such crass delusions.

But what is sickening is how a truly gargantuan criminal war and blot on humanity is deified as a paragon of virtue to provide inspiration.

Incredibly, the day before Obama made his syrupy, American-pie paean, the world was reminded, in an oblique way, of the reality of what "American heroes" did to Iraq.

At the conclusion earlier this week of an American military court prosecution over the 2005 Haditha massacre in Iraq, none of the US Marines involved in the incident were found guilty of anything worse than "dereliction of duty".

All but one of the eight "American heroes" was acquitted or had the charges dropped in spite of the fact that on 19 November 2005 the Marines led by Staff Sergeant Frank Wuterich butchered 24 Iraqi civilians in the Western Iraqi city of Haditha. The victims included women and children, shot at close range in their beds as the US Marines ran amok in homes.

In a scene reprised elsewhere in Iraq and Afghanistan, the killers urinated on the mutilated bodies of their victims.

The "conclusion" of the American military court martial has sparked outrage across Iraq and the world. Here was a clear case of mass murder, and yet the American troops who committed this despicable crime walk free. The case is just one of countless others in which Iraqi civilians were shot or blown to pieces by American and NATO troops during nine years of illegal occupation. The Haditha trial is reminiscent of the British court martial over the killing of hotel worker Baha Moussa in the southern Iraqi port city of Basra; Moussa was beaten to death while in custody by British squaddies, all of whom were later cleared, despite patent evidence of cold-blooded murder.

If such cases of egregious war crimes can be committed with impunity, what chance is there for justice and truth in the plethora of other crimes committed by American, British and other Western troops and mercenaries in Iraq - the checkpoint shootings, other murderous house raids, helicopter and drone attacks on villages, the use of death squads?

After nine years of terrorizing a country that left more than one million dead and one-in-three children orphans, an American president refers glowingly to the army of criminal occupation as "heroes". More disturbingly, the president seems to think, and wants the US public to think, that with that kind of American "achievement" and "courage" their country can overcome the moral and material meltdown that it faces.

That is tantamount to urinating on the public's intelligence.

The Disease Machine: Why Drug Makers Keep You Sick

© Natural Society
The Disease Machine: Why Drug Makers Keep You Sick by Anthony Gucciardi

Why are ineffective and dangerous drugs peddled by supposed 'public health' organizations in place of well-established natural solutions with virtually zero side effects? The truth of the matter is that drug makers simply would not profit if the world were to awaken to the plethora of free health-promoting substances that beat out over-priced pharmaceuticals and medical interventions. There would be no need for pharmaceutical manufacturers, phony 'public health' organizations peddling the latest 'miracle' drug, and certainly no research organizations feeding off the donations of good-hearted individuals.

You may think that this is an impossibility and that natural solutions simply do not compare to 'scientifically proven' pharmaceutical science. The truth of the matter is that scientific evidence is the very thing disproving the safety and effectiveness of pharmaceutical drugs as well as highlighting the surplus of beneficial properties associated with inexpensive and free vital nutrients.

Contrast: Cancer Drugs Causing 'Mega' Tumors, Turmeric Reduces Tumors by 81%

It was recently revealed that cancer drugs, toted as the only choice among chemotherapy for many cancer sufferers by 'public health' groups, are actually causing massive tumors and subsequently killing the patient. The cancer drugs were found to not only be completely ineffective, but deadly. These are the same drugs that are sold for a premium price and considered to be scientifically validated.

Meanwhile, peer-reviewed research has found that a spice known as turmeric can reduce tumors by 81% naturally. Researchers found that curcumin (a derivative of turmeruc) dramatically decreased brain tumors in 9 out of the 11 studies examined by 81 percent. Furthermore, there was no evidence of toxicity. Widely used as a spice in South Asian and Middle Eastern countries, turmeric is continually being pinpointed as an extremely potent anti-cancer solution. What's more is the fact that turmeric is extremely inexpensive, and can be found around the globe - from Saudi Arabia to Kentucky.

This is just one example of scientific research validating natural alternatives while simultaneously pinpointing the extreme dangers associated with mainstream pharmaceuticals pushed as the only treatment by drug companies.

Antibiotics Causing Mental Illness, Drug Makers Treat With Antipsychotics

As reported back in 2011, antibiotics have been found to permanently destroy beneficial gut bacteria and damage gut health. As you may know, gut health has been directly linked to the state of your mental health, with some even going as far as saying that your gut is your 'second brain'. What this means is that antibiotic use can actually breed mental illness (along with diabetes and metabolic syndrome), which is quite concerning when considering that half of all Americans are to be diagnosed with a mental illness within their life time.

What is the answer to these skyrocketing mental illness rates according to drug makers and the mainstream medical industry? Prescribe mind-altering antipsychotics. Prescribe more drugs to treat a side effect of another drug - receive more profits. After all, the extreme profits generated from antipsychotic drugs became apparent in 2008, becoming the top-selling therapeutic class prescription drug in the United States and grossing over $14 billion in sales.

Of course these antipsychotics are given out to patients instead of actually addressing the core problem associated with gut health. As a result, the patient simply is under the influence of brain-altering effects and never really 'recovers' from their mental illness. Instead, they are sentenced to a lifetime of prescription drug usage with the possibility of reduced dosage over time. To truly address the issue of gut health, it is vital to utilize probiotics to restore the depleted beneficial bacteria back into your gut.

This can easily be done through natural foods or high quality supplementation. Fermented food items such as sauerkraut, tempeh, miso or kefir are all rich sources of probiotic bacteria. But the drug makers would never willingly tell you that, because all of these foods can be found for a few dollars at your local farmers market and can work more effectively to recover mental health than dangerous antipsychotics.

Paradigm Shift

Drug makers want you to remain sick, tired, and looking for pharmaceutical solutions. In order to see a transformation, natural solutions need to be brought into the spotlight. As a result, drug sales will plummet and these profit-mongering corporations will begin to go bankrupt after spending millions on the latest cancer drug that turns out to actually be deadlier than the disease itself.

A real paradigm shift is coming - the gears of the disease machine are slowing to a halt.

Surviving Japan『生き残り日本』原発事故の被災地ドキュメンタリー

Surviving Japan『生き残り日本』原発事故の被災地ドキュメンタリー

この映像の多くは、日本語のシーンです Inside story -An American Volunteer living in Japan suddenly finds himself Inside the 2011 Japanese Tsunami relief & nuclear crisis.

A critical look at how the authorities handled the nuclear crisis and Tsunami relief by an American who volunteered in the clean-up.

Surviving Japan is a documentary by volunteer and director Chris Noland. It is in short, a documentary of the devastating events in Japan and the after-math that followed.

The documentary shows the humanitarian and aid crisis that faced the people in the wake of both natural and nuclear disaster. It features true stories from those affected by the disaster, the government and even TEPCO. It highlights the struggle in dealing with: The Tsunami clean-up, lack of Government response to the disaster, radiation plus the future of nuclear power after the accident, a possible Cover-up of the Fukushima Dai-ichi Nuclear disaster, and an uncooperative Government that dismisses legitimate health concerns while providing the citizens with little to no information about the effects the disaster would have on their future.

"The continuance of using such finite energy resources will only produce limited results for a limited number, leaving the rest of the world out of the equation." - C. Noland

This movie is not just for Japan, it is for the world.

I started this project as a volunteer after the Great East Japan Earthquake. Aside from the obvious wake-up call received by the nuclear accident was that of the massive debris. This debris is mostly from our consumer culture and non-renewable lifestyles we live on earth today, one the earth cannot sustain forever.

The Aim is to inform, educate and change. I have gathered interviews from the ground up. From Tsunami refugee denied food and aid, to Government Officials, to even TEPCO.

This same Bureaucracy is the one that keeps us from renewable energy and peace on earth. This documentary is not just for Japan, it is for the world, because if we do not make change, we will not have one.

Low-Cholesterol Madness: The Oiling of America

Low-Cholesterol Madness: The Oiling of America by Mary G. Enig, Ph.D. and Sally Fallon

Summary: Margarine's the bad guy and butter and eggs are the good guys. Big business, government agencies and medical organizations have campaigned deceptively against cholesterol, meat, eggs, butter and other traditional foods, leading to huge profits from sales of potentially more harmful margarine, refined foods and trans-fatty acid products. Scientific data contradicting that public health policy was suppressed and censored from publication for many years. Dr. Enig and Sally Fallon now tell you the truth about how that happened.

In 1954 a young researcher from Russia named David Kritchevsky published a paper describing the effects of feeding cholesterol to rabbits.1 Cholesterol added to vegetarian rabbit chow caused the formation of atheromas - plaques that block arteries and contribute to heart disease. Cholesterol is a heavy weight molecule - an alcohol or a sterol - found only in animal foods such as meat, fish, cheese, eggs and butter. In the same year, according to the American Oil Chemists Society, Kritchevsky published a paper describing the beneficial effects of polyunsaturated fatty acids for lowering cholesterol levels.2 Polyunsaturated fatty acids are the kind of fats found in large amounts in highly liquid vegetable oils made from corn, soybeans, safflower seeds and sunflower seeds. (Monounsaturated fatty acids are found in large amounts in olive oil, palm oil and lard; saturated fatty acids are found in large amounts in fats and oils that are solid at room temperature, such as butter, tallows and coconut oil.)

Scientists of the period were grappling with a new threat to public health - a steep rise in heart disease. While turn-of-the-century mortality statistics are unreliable, they consistently indicate that heart disease caused no more than ten percent of all deaths, considerably less than infectious diseases such as pneumonia and tuberculosis. By 1950, coronary heart disease, or CHD, was the leading source of mortality in the United States, causing more than 30% of all deaths. The greatest increase came under the rubric of myocardial infarction (MI) - a massive blood clot leading to obstruction of a coronary artery and consequent death to the heart muscle. MI was almost nonexistent in 1910 and caused no more than three thousand deaths per year in 1930. By 1960, there were at least 500,000 MI deaths per year in the US. What life-style changes had caused this increase?

One change was a decrease in infectious disease, following the decline of the horse as a means of transport, the installation of more sanitary water supplies and the advent of better housing, all of which allowed more people to reach adulthood and the heart attack age. The other was a dietary change. Since the early part of the century, when the Department of Agriculture had begun to keep track of food "disappearance" data - the amount of various foods going into the food supply - a number of researchers had noticed a change in the kind of fats Americans were eating. Butter consumption was declining while the use of vegetable oils, especially oils that had been hardened to resemble butter by a process called hydrogenation, was increasing - dramatically increasing. By 1950 butter consumption had dropped from eighteen pounds per person per year to just over ten. Margarine filled in the gap, rising from about two pounds per person at the turn of the century to about eight. Consumption of vegetable shortening - used in crackers and baked goods - remained relatively steady at about twelve pounds per person per year but vegetable oil consumption had more than tripled - from just under three pounds per person per year to more than ten.3

The statistics pointed to one obvious conclusion - Americans should eat the traditional foods that nourished their ancestors, including meat, eggs, butter and cheese, and avoid the newfangled vegetable-oil-based foods that were flooding the grocers' shelves...

Utah Doctors Join the Occupy Movement by Dr. Brian Moench

Taking inspiration from the Occupy movement, in late December a group of doctors and environmental groups in Salt Lake City, Utah, announced a lawsuit against the third-largest mining corporation in the world, Rio Tinto, for violating the Clean Air Act in Utah. This is likely the first time ever that physicians have sued industry for harming public health.

Air pollution causes between 1,000 and 2,000 premature deaths every year in Utah.

(1) Moreover, medical research in the last ten years has firmly established that air pollution causes the same broad array of diseases well known to result from first- and secondhand cigarette smoke - strokes, heart attacks, high blood pressure, virtually every kind of lung disease, neurologic diseases like Alzheimer's, Parkinson's, loss of intelligence, chromosomal damage, higher rates of diabetes, obesity, adverse birth outcomes, and various cancers such as lung cancer, breast cancer and leukemia. (2-12)

Most of Utah's cities are in violation of many of the Environmental Protection Agency's (EPA) national air quality standards, and for several days during a typical winter, Utah is plagued by the worst air pollution in the country. The American Lung Association routinely gives Utah's largest cities an "F" for our air quality. Last February, Forbes Magazine, hardly a cheerleader for excessive environmental protection, rated Salt Lake City as the ninth most toxic city in the country, and the biggest contributor to that ranking was the mining and smelting operations at the Bingham Canyon mine, run by London-based mining conglomerate Rio Tinto/Kennecott (RTK). (13)

This is the world's largest open-pit mine and has created the largest mining-related water pollution problem in the world. The mine is located on the western doorstep of Salt Lake City, home to 1.8 million people. There is no comparable juxtaposition of an enormous mining operation this close to such a large urban center. RTK's mine and smelter operations account for 30 percent of the particulate matter emitted into the atmosphere over Salt Lake County (14), making it by far the largest source of industrial pollution in the urban areas of Utah.

The smelting operations and fugitive dust from the 1,100-foot-high waste rock piles and tailings ponds are a constant source of highly toxic heavy metal contamination - lead, mercury, arsenic and cadmium - to the air, water and soil of Utah's largest city.  The mining industry watchdog Earthworks states that before the most recently approved expansion, RTK was releasing 695 million pounds of toxic material into the Salt Lake City environment every year. (15) Because heavy metals do not degrade, are not combustible and cannot be destroyed, that heavy metal toxicity steadily increases year after year, as it has for the over 100 years of the mine's operation. Despite this extreme burden on public health, predictably, the Utah Division of Air Quality recently issued a permit for RTK to expand their operations by 32 percent, which will make their pollution emissions even worse.

RTK is making record profits - $15 billion last year. In August, Chairman of the Board Jan du Plessis bragged, "Rio Tinto has produced another set of record-breaking results." Du Plessis apparently specializes in delivering pollution: he is also chairman of the board of British American Tobacco. Tom Albanese, Rio Tinto's CEO, who made almost $8.5 million in compensation last year, recently lamented, "[Rio Tinto must do] a better job at managing the curse of resource nationalism ... and the activism of stakeholder engagement." (16) Let me translate that for you:  local people throughout the world are tired of being exploited for profit, they're starting to stand up for themselves and Rio Tinto doesn't like it. Utah citizens tired of RTK's pollution would be considered part of that "curse" to Rio Tinto executives.

This issue is simple: RTK can well afford to clean up, but they won't, and no one is making them. Their contribution to our pollution is hurting all the residents of Salt Lake City and adding to the premature death total mentioned above. For environmental and public health advocates, RTK pursuing and receiving an approval to expand was the last straw.

If the core tenet of the Occupy movement is that corporations and the 1 percent manipulate every level of government to serve their profit-driven agendas and simultaneously disregard - if not openly undermine - the interests of the 99 percent, then there is no better example than RTK's operation of Utah's Bingham Canyon mine.

The Utah Physicians for Healthy Environment estimate that the mortality, health and environmental costs to the community from RTK pollution is between $2 billion and $4 billion, more than the value of the wages and taxes that they pay. Nonetheless, a massive public relations budget allows RTK to heavily advertise themselves as "job providers" and take virtually no responsibility for the various environmental and health consequences of their operations.

Frederick Douglass, the19th-century civil rights leader, said, "Find out just what any people will quietly submit to and you have found out the exact measure of injustice and wrong which will be imposed upon them." Let it be known that the people in Utah will no longer "quietly submit" to more pollution, more deaths, shortened life spans and poorer health to fatten the wallets in the London boardroom of Rio Tinto. We are going to "take back" the air we breathe.

108 Milligrams Of This Common "Nutrient" Can Kill A Person

108 Milligrams Of This Common "Nutrient" Can Kill A Person by Sayer Ji

If you knew that cyanide was found in common mass market products, at any dose, would you consume them?  Probably not, correct? Well then, how do you feel about a chemical 4 times more toxic than cyanide? Would you consume that intentionally, or avoid it?

Enter the strange case of sodium selenate, a byproduct of copper metal refining, and which is actually proudly listed as a "nutrient" on the labels of many mass market products, presumably as a key selling-point!

Forgive us for the redundancy here, but it is 4 times more lethal than sodium cyanide. It only takes .4 milligrams (that's 250 micrograms, or 250 millionths of a gram!) to kill 50% of the rats who are made to ingest it. A human, weighing 275 times more than a rat, has a 50% chance of dying if consuming 108 milligrams of the stuff!
