It isn’t as if we aren’t already exposed to ghastly amounts of radiation. Between the radioactive isotopes contaminating the entire West Coast, to the over-use of mammography, chemotherapy, and radiation treatments to treat cancer, we are bombarded with radioactive contamination. Now, the FDA, in their infinite wisdom, has decided to approve a whole new list of foods for radiation treatment - a practice that has been in motion for many foods for some time.
Irradiated food was previously considered necessary only on very rare occasions, and was originally permitted for only a few foods. With this new rule, not only will meats, poultry, fruits, vegetables, spices, and lettuces be radiated, but now also crab, shrimp, lobster, crayfish, and prawns.
This is a large expanse of foods that many of us enjoy, and they shouldn’t need to be made into cancer-causing gastronomies simply because the FDA is too lazy, or infiltrated with corporate money, to solve the problem at its root. The dosage that will now be allowed is ridiculous:
