9 Year Old Explains Why His Friends Shouldn’t Eat GMO Bt Corn

With ‘experts’ all over the world telling us GMOs are ‘safe’, a gregarious nine-year-old named Daniel Bissonnette (along with hundreds of other scientists, and then hundreds more) is telling people everywhere, including his friends at school, to ditch their GMO sunchips, and to go organic. He also educates his peers about how he knows Bt toxins can ruin your gut health and possibly alter our own DNA.

In this animated video, Daniel explains to us why he won’t consider eating even one sun chip since they are full of Bt corn – which is possibly one of Monsanto’s biggest failures. Bt corn is named as such because a gene from the soil bacteria Bacillus thuringiensis (Bt), which produces a Bt toxin, is inserted into the corn seed genetically, which then acts as a pesticide, exploding inside the stomach of the pests which eat it. But guess what, it does the same thing to the people that eat it – and even Daniel understands this. Its been in our food supply since the 1990s, but became popular as a means to hopefully eradicate one of corn’s biggest enemies – the rootworm.f

Here’s where Monsanto’s science experiment has failed, though. The pest which Bt corn was meant to eradicate is now becoming resistant to the GMO corn plants. University of Illinois entomologist Michael Gray has visited Bt corn fields and found:
“… producers across a wide swath of the state will face a “formidable insect foe” capable of overcoming both crop rotation and the protein.

… corn rootworm [was collected] not just in the damaged corn but in adjacent soybean fields. ‘The density of the western corn rootworm adults in both crops … was additional evidence that the Bt hybrids had failed to offer the necessary root protection.’”
Furthermore, studies conducted on rats who ate Bt corn resulted in some serious health maladies. They suffered ill effects after just 90 days of eating this toxic crop, including:
  • Changes in their blood cells which caused cancer
  • Liver and kidney damage
  • Digestive issues and problems with their small intestines
A German court ordered the initial study in 2005, but Monsanto refuted it using unscientific and contradictory terms to minimize the implications of these findings. The seed-monopolizing company continues to spew lies about this GMO crop:
Good-tasting and grown a better way, our biotech [or genetically modified (GM)] sweet corn reduces the number of pesticide applications and thus allows farmers to take fewer trips across their fields. With its built-in insect pest control, farmers who plant Monsanto’s biotech sweet corn are able to grow high-quality produce with reduced insect pest damage.

To protect sweet corn from damaging worms, the naturally-occurring protein found in 
Bacillus thuringiensis or Bt is built into the seed genetics. Bt is often used as an insecticide by organic farmers to control the same types of insect pests.”
